Everyone knows the basics about wearing neatly ironed clothes and polished shoes but what about some more advances and useful advice?
An interview is about selling yourself. Don't forget that. Don't try too hard or be too obtuse in your efforts but make sure that you present yourself professionally and point out your unique selling points that make you a good fit for the position. Be sure to stress your advantages over the other "products" (the other candidates for the position) on the market.
Always be honest. Being caught in a lie will wipe out any chance of you getting the job. If you don't know the answer to a technical question try to turn this round as an opportunity to show what a proactive person you are by describing how you would find out the answer for yourself.
Be friendly and remember to smile. Humour can be an ice breaker but don't over do it. Reflect the attitude of the interviewer, cool professionalism is best answered in a detached manner a friendly approach deserves the same in return.
Practice makes perfect. Don't expect to perform wonderfully at your first interviews. You will get better. If you can and are lucky enough to have a choice, schedule the interview for the job that sounds less interesting first.
Do what ever it takes to make sure you aren't late. This is a major problem for a lot of interviewers. Depending on how you are travelling make appropriate allowances for traffic or time table problems. Arrive early, but not too early, no more than fifteen minutes, preferably five to ten minutes before the due time.
